Hi, RenegadeOfTheStreetZ welcome to the hiphop network underground digital magazine, Why don't you introduce yourself for those who don't know you already?
Well, now I go by Renegade of the FUTURE....Cuz I feel I'm so far ahead of so called "MC's" that they can find me there....(in the future ....... for slow people)
Well the network is all about making moves, so tell me what sets you as an artist and the group you work with apart from every other rapper/producer out there grinding?
Many reasons. One being my passion. My passion for hip hop, and just music period is crazy! I've always wanted to make music since I was little and I have been recording since 12-13! I even remember being about 6, or 7 using a boombox and a casio keyboard on loop to try to record a rap song! (LMAO) It wasn't much of course but all I can remember is telling myself, when I get older I want to do this type of thing.
Another reason would be my work ethic. Ever since I downloaded Cool Edit so many years ago, I have been using it on damn near a daily basis. Today I record even more than ever. Every single day I'm in the lab workin' on "albums" with my camp. I put that in quotes because I don't have the proper promotion or quality that a true ALBUM should have, but the material is Album quality, so, there you have it.
What group is it that you're currently repping, and what's a little history behind how you came to be?
R.M. - Renegade Muzik.
I had a few other names when I first started but none of them really felt right for me. One day I thought, "Renegade, that means like an outlaw right?" Then it hit me, that's exactly what I am lol. Maybe not the kind you're thinking of but, I always kept to myself, even as a kid, even now kind of, was never really one to hang out in big groups or do what everyone else did. I always stuck to a small circle of friends, and to myself and that's the reason behind the name. Oh, and I make muzik so that explains the last part. (lol)
Is there anything going on locally that we should be keeping our eye out from you and your camp? Where is it that you consider to be your local grounds?
I have lived in the New Orleans are my whole life. I've been passing out mixtapes for the past few years since around summer of '06. And while I dont have the fanbase I want or really need right now, I've still heard people that I dont even know talkin' about they heard or liked my CD. While this hasn't happened nearly as often as I want it to, it has on a few occasions. But that just pushes me to promote my work harder tho!
What do you think of the Hiphop Network, and what they are trying to do in building an indie database making real hiphop accessible to everyone?
What the founders of HHN are trying to create here is great, I think. Their ideas are inventive and ahead of plenty other Hip-Hop sites out there. The 100 track uploads and the social network part is real cool to me. I havent had time or the internet connection to use it like I would like to, but its nice. I also like how they are trying to build a database of any and everyone's mixtapes/demos/albums. It's a good thing because someone who never even knew of you could download your cd with ease, and if you want to network or whatever with them all you gotta do is find them on the site and hit 'em up. I feel that HHN in the direction its going will build a strong community in the "digital hip-hop world".
Aiight, on a more personal level now RenegadeOfTheStreetZ what is your personal take on the current state of hiphop today?
Coming from an unsigned artist trying to make it in the game today, it's not in such a good state. I mean I'm at work, they got the radio on, and I hear sh*t that shouldn't have even left the studio it came from, yenno? And sometimes I feel like it's that kinda ish that's messin' the game up. I also think that alot of artist who are in the game right now aren't putting in as much effort as they should or could. And the hungry unsigned artist like myself need to take advantage of that. (and I will!)
If you don't agree that hiphop is dead, or at least digital currently, then please tell us why you think that it is still alive, and who do you believe is currently out there that supports your case?
Hip-Hop isn't dead , at least in my opinion. Hip-Hop will live as long as people have love for it. It's funny I didn't even know I was gonna do this interview or that I would be asked this question today but earlier I was thinking about that. But, I feel that in a way it is being hurt by artist out there that just don't try and put out whatever they feel like just because their in the position to do so. I also think that some artist out now are very lucky to be in the positions they are in tho, considering their content. But I ain't gonna sit here an hate, good for them. But artist I think are reppin' real hip-hop are Fabolous, Eminem, Akon, and Dipset but it looks like their future as a group aint bright.......Honestly I don't listen to alot of commercial shit so my list ends there. I'm really more focused on my group right now so my favorite Hip-Hop groups is R.M. right now =)
What made you decide that you were going to make music for a living?
Like I said before I always had a passion for music, and as I got older Hip-Hop really caught my attention. Enough to the point where I started making it myself, and enough people told me I had so much talent, so why not use that to pursue a career in doing something you love doing?
What else is in store for RenegadeOfTheStreetZ and your camp in the near future or beginning of 2009?? What is it that the network should be looking forward to?
Well the first quarter of 09 is about to be wrapped up. My solo mixtape R3BIRTH v1 is out right now @ www.soundclick.com/renegademuzik . In May, there are 2 tapes DEFINITLY dropping, which are: Ren N Steph - The Ult1mate Connection Part I(me and my girl's "album"), and The Industrial ReNalution(which is me ripping up industry beats, I have 5 of the songs from that currently uploaded on my soundclick), other possible tapes dropping this month are R.M. - We R The Future (which is close to completion) and Ill Chris[my brother] - The Xpiriment.
I have LOADS of tapes to drop this year it boggles my mind how much work I have to do in the lab lol, but I'm in it grindin' everyday to meet my goals. I expect to have at LEAST 10 tapes done by the end of this year..... My goal is actually more!
Well it looks like we've come to the end of our interview, I'd like to thank you personally RenegadeOfTheStreetZ for taking the time to let us all get to know you better, is there anything else you'd like to say before this is over?
Just to check my site ( www.soundclick.com/renegademuzik ) for updates on my newest releases. I promise this year is gonna be crazy for my team! 1.
