Kanye West - 808’s And Heartbreak Album Review

Posted under: music

Not many can appreciate creativity and pushing the envelope more than Nimi Hendrix. With that said, I was highly anticipating 808’s & Heartbreak. I first heard Love Lockdown along with the rest of the world when he performed it live on the VMA awards. Weeks, and a couple versions later, the song was on constant rotation in the Maxima. The follow-up single, Heartless, was also dope, so my expectations for the LP were increasing as the weeks passed.

Then came a fan’s worst nightmare. You get the album, play it all the way through, and the two best songs were the ones that  you had already heard. I mean, its common sense that an artist chooses the most worthy songs on the album to release as his singles, but you also expect him to hold back more songs of that same caliber or better yet, have songs too dope to be released for radio consumption and mainstream dilution.

I actually intended to write this review weeks ago when I first spun the album, but since I’ve been a big Kanye fan since the 40 second Jesus Walks snippet I decided to wait to see if the album would grow on me. I’ve noticed that when I listen to an album that’s outside of the genre I’m usually accustomed to, it takes a lot more than one listen to fully appreciate and accept the unusual music. I tried everything to like the album, I even let several people hear it to see if they had a differing opinion that might sway my disdane for the project. I tried that up to 2 minutes before I wrote this, and nobody I know liked it. So 2 weeks later, I’m stuck with the same impression that I had the moment I initially put the album in.

Kanye is not a great singer, but I am a fan of the ability to write and craft music more so than the technical aspect of singing. Which is why I can confidently say that The Dream album shits on R. Kelly’s last effort. Lack of exceptional singing ability ignored, with the help of T-Pain’s autotune, I was set up and ready to enjoy the 808’s and Heartbreak, but aside from the two singles, and “Say You Will” the music just did not captivate me. I can’t specifically say what I did not like about the album other than it didnt make me want to keep listening. It wasn’t bad music, but after listening to the album all the way through many times, I can’t even remember how most of the songs sound.

Best song - Say You Will (other than the two we all heard)

Worst song - I can’t remember, that’s not a title, i just can’t recall.

Final Judgement - 5.5/10

After three great albums, this mediocre effort makes me anticipate another RAP album a lot more.

Police To Try 8 Year Old Boy as an Adult in Murder Case

Posted under: News

I know this is kinda old for me to be blogging about today, but I’ve been busy up until now to really pay attention. Anyways, if you havn’t heard about this case, the 8 Year old boy shot his father and another man. The video above shows an excerpt from the boy’s confession.

The boy’s motive for the crime was also found in a record he kept of the number of times he was beaten. After 1,000 beatings, the boy promised to kill his father and kept it real after the 1,000th lashing.

What i don’t understand though is trying the kid as an adult. I never understood that as a matter of fact. In my book adult trial were for adults, or teenagers near adulthood who might have the mental capacity of an adult. Nowhere does an 8 year old satisfy that criteria, and in any gruesome crime committed by a child that young, I place less blame on the kid and more on the parent, even if he was the one shot.
